Stay Clean, Stay Safe: ITA Issues Supplement Safety Guidance for Athletes

The International Testing Agency (ITA) has issued an important reminder to all athletes: be cautious when using nutritional supplements, as some may contain banned substances that can lead to unintentional anti-doping rule violations.

Even when taken in good faith, supplements can be contaminated or mislabeled. Athletes are strictly liable for everything they ingest.

Key Tips from the ITA:

  • Check all supplements using tools like Global DRO and third-party certification programs (e.g., NSF Certified for Sport).
  • Keep records of all products used.
  • When in doubt, leave it out.
