School Start Squash 6.2 – SCORING

PLAY THIS VIDEO TO LEARN HOW TO SCORE

HOW TO SCORE: Teach the students how to score accurately in squash. An official squash match adheres to the following rules:

  • Players play best-of-five games (first player to win three)
  • Each game is played up to 11 points, unless it reaches 10-10, in which case a player must win by two points, for example: 12-10, 13-11, and so on.
  • PAR (when a player wins a rally, they receive one point).
  • Use the score sheet on the right as an example of how to record squash scores. A printable official US Squash scoring sheet can be found on the US Squash website under ‘Resources’, ‘Organize’, ‘Tournament Resources’, ‘Score Sheet’ and ‘Singles matches’.
  • For each game of the four-game match, Player A (Sally) score is in the left column and Player B (Katie) score is in the right.
  • Sally won 3–1. As you can see, the score in the fourth game was 10-10, thus Sally needed to win by two points to win the game and, with it, the match.
  • When a player wins the racquet spin (to begin the match) or a game, they take the first serve.
  • Please keep in mind that each time the serve changes hands, the score is written lower than the previous score to indicate who served last and from which side.
  • ‘R’ and ‘L’ are written next to the score to indicate the side they served from. This is especially important to know when there is interference and a let is called, requiring the players to re-do the point.
