School Start Squash 2.4 – BACKHAND HAND HITS AND RESTRICTED BACKHAND DRIVES AGAINST THE NET OR WALL

PLAY THIS VIDEO TO LEARN HOW TO HIT A BACKHAND HAND HITS AGAINST THE WALL/NET FROM THE DROP BOUNCE FEED

To master the backhand swing BEFORE using a racquet, ‘hit’ the ball with the back of the hand onto the net from the drop bounce feed.

HAND HITS BACKHANDS:

  • After watching the demo video, divide the group into pairs. Player A performs a drop bounce feed, and player B uses the back of their hand to ‘hit’ the ball into the net or wall when it bounces up. Switch every five hits.

HITTING BACKHAND DRIVES AGAINST THE NET/WALL OFF THE DROP BOUNCE FEED

  • Watch the video. Then to practice hitting backhand drives against the wall/net using the drop bounce feed, arrange for two students to demonstrate the technique and hit backhand drives with the racquet in front of the entire group.
  • Divide into pairs or small groups as before, then assign each pair or group a net or wall space.
  • Once the ‘feeder’ has fed the entire group twice, exchange roles so that everyone takes turns being the ‘feeder’. Every five shots, the pairs switch.
  • Before each hit, the hitter should stand sideways with the racquet head up (not too high) and use the correct grip. Hit a restricted backhand drive and go to the back of the line, allowing the following student to hit.
