Now that students have learned the grip, the next step is to learn the squash swing. Due to space constraints and safety concerns, the school gym requires a restricted, smaller swing.

PRACTICING THE RESTRICTED FOREHAND SWING (no ball hitting):

- After the entire group has watched the demo video, spread them out at a safe distance from one another to practice a restricted forehand swing. Remind kids to maintain a strong grasp. Try fifteen safe controlled forehand swings.
- Once the students are comfortable with the restricted swing, they can go to learning the ‘drop bounce feed‘ onto the racquet face.
WRITTEN DETAILS ABOUT THE RESTRICTED SWING

- Begin the swing with the racquet head back and up, but no higher than the shoulder, and the hand/grip at waist height.
- Turn sideways to the wall or net to get a solid hitting position, then surge to hit the ball.
- Keep the racquet face slightly open so that you strike the ball slightly under the ‘contact’ point.
- Instead of hitting the ball, consider using a push/’pat-a-cake’ technique. This way, the students will strike the ball softly.
- Follow through with a shorter, slower swing, and point the racquet in the direction you want the ball to go.
