Program Director Resources: BUILDING EVENTS AND PLAY IN YOUR PROGRAM

Each player’s journey in squash is personal—shaped by their own goals, interests, and time availability. Whether someone is striving for high-level competition or simply looking to enjoy the sport for fitness and fun, there is a place for them in the squash community.

Offering a range of ways to get involved is essential to ensure squash fits all lifestyles. From casual play to organized competition, squash supports both social engagement and athletic development.

While the emphasis for many is on enjoyment, fitness, and connection, club-based programming also provides plenty of opportunities for those seeking a competitive edge.

To maximize involvement and foster a thriving squash community, clubs and programs should offer a variety of engaging opportunities that appeal to players of all ages, levels, and goals. A well-rounded program creates a welcoming environment where members feel connected, challenged, and inspired to grow through the sport.

Individual Lessons
Personalized, one-on-one coaching with a club squash professional focused on improving technique, strategy, and overall performance.

Group Lessons
Players train together in a structured session led by a coach. Sessions include drills, match play, and fitness training tailored to the group’s level.

Friendly Matches
Casual matches arranged between players or with a coach’s help. These matches offer great practice without the pressure of formal competition.

Club Championships
An in-house tournament where members compete against one another. A great way to gain match experience in a familiar, competitive setting.

Round Robins
Players are split into groups and play matches against everyone in their group. Ideal for maximizing play time and facing multiple opponents.

Challenge Ladder
Players are ranked on a ladder and challenge others to move up in position. A fun, ongoing way to stay competitive and track progress.

Box Leagues
Players are placed in round-robin groups (boxes) by skill level. Based on performance, players move up or down between boxes in the next cycle.

Intra-Club Fun Team Matches
Organize a social, inclusive team event where players of all levels and ages are grouped into teams and put in team order based on their skill level or age. Host a Team Day or Team Night where teams compete in friendly matches, promoting camaraderie, match experience, and club spirit.

NSL-Format Team Matches
Bring energy and strategy into your club matches with the exciting new NSL (National Squash League) format. Matches are played over three timed periods, featuring Power Plays and tactical substitutions—perfect for juniors and adults alike. This fast-paced format adds excitement and team strategy to the traditional game.

Team District Leagues
Players form teams and compete against other clubs or groups in a seasonal league. Combines competition with camaraderie and community spirit.
