PLAY THIS VIDEO TO LEARN THE CORRECT GRIP
Distribute racquets, balls, and eyewear to each student.
When starting to teach squash, the best place to start is by demonstrating the proper grip.
- Ask the students to spread out throughout the gym to find their own space.
- Hold their racquets out in front with the correct grip.
- Ask them to place their racquets on the ground and then take them up with the correct grip.
- Check each grip and repeat multiple times.
KEY POINTS FOR THE CORRECT GRIP:
- The ‘V’ of the hand must be on the left side of the grip (if right-handed; opposite if left-handed).
- Spread out fingers, especially the forefinger, for increased control.
- Hold the racquet head as high as your wrist as possible. Players will lose control if the racquet head is always lower than the wrist.
- The correct grip allows the racquet face to be open. This makes it easier to hit good, consistent shots and keeps the racquet face open when going from forehand to backhand and changing shots.
