Tournament Guide For Parents 101 – CONSIDERATIONS FOR SELECTING TOURNAMENTS 1.4

Once you have started out and your child has played three tournaments and has a ranking, ask yourself the questions below before entering future tournaments:

  • How is your child doing currently in their tournaments?
  • How many tournaments have they played?
  • What is the lowest point value in their average?
  • When are the drop off dates for key tournaments – the best and worst points?
  • What is the emotional make up of your child?

Here are some guidelines to consider:

  1. Never play a tournament where the top position points are lower than your average.

2. Consider moving to another tournament level if your child is struggling and finishing in the last position consistently. The lowest finishing points in the higher tournament level are less than finishing 1-8 position in the lower tournament level.

3. It is also vital to think about the emotional journey and that players need get used to winning and losing. Always getting crushed in an event where the level is too high is not fun nor advantageous for ranking points.
