Starting Out: Drives 2.6 – GRIPS & TECHNIQUE

These are all points to consider, however, this does not mean every technical point has to be mentioned. Keep it fun and gradually add more technical points to a player’s game as they build in confidence and skill level.

SPECIFIC GRIP AND TECHNIQUE:

  • Stand the player 3 racquet lengths away from the wall to perfect the swing and swing without a ball x 10 each side.
  • Start with easy single ball feeds. Each child hits the ball. Consider active rest of the players waiting.

TECHNIQUE TO LOOK OUT FOR:

  • Open racket face.
  • Racket up early.
  • Straight follow through.
  • Balanced position.
  • Face the side wall.

KEY POINTS:

  • Coach should correct grip and swing throughout the lesson.
  • Don’t forget to let them know when they are doing it right!
  • Constant positive reinforcement!
  • Demonstrate again for players struggling.
