  1. ARRIVING ON TIME
  • Arrive at least 1 hour before match time to check in and warm up without stress.
  • Leave extra travel time—if your child is not on court within 15 minutes, they may be defaulted and could forfeit remaining matches. Directors are not required to make exceptions.

2. CHECKING IN & TOURNAMENT GIFT

  • Find the tournament desk (near entrance/courts) and check in before the first match.
  • Collect the tournament gift at check-in.
  • For t-shirts, ensure your child’s correct size is listed in Club Locker—update as they grow.

3. PRE-MATCH WARM-UP (15 MIN)

A good warm-up prevents injuries, settles nerves, and sharpens focus. Suggested routine:

  • Running (in place or hallways) to raise heart rate.
  • Forward & side lunges to mimic squash movements.
  • Leg swings & toe touches for flexibility and mobility.

4. GAME PLAN

If you don’t have a coach to help you, encourage your child to stick to 2 or 3 basics:

  • Hit high & deep—if unsure, go straight or to backhand side.
  • Play away from the opponent.
  • Serve high & wide to the side wall.
  • Volley whenever possible.
  • Return to the T after each shot.
  • Go short when opponent is behind you.

5. ON-COURT PRE-MATCH WARM-UP (4 MINUTES TOTAL)

  • Each side: 2 minutes.
  • Etiquette: hit 2–3 shots to yourself, then to your opponent.
  • After warm-up: 1 min 30 sec break for water before play begins.

6. MATCH PLAY

  • Matches are best of 5 games (first to 3 wins).
  • Games use point-a-rally scoring to 11.
  • At 10–10, must win by 2 points.
  • Between games: 2-minute break—be back on court promptly.
  • BE SURE TO THANK YOUR REFEREE AND MARKER AT THE END OF MATCH – WIN OR LOSE!

7. CONCERNS DURING THE MATCH

If multiple incidents occur during a match that are not being managed by the referee, it is recommended that you go to the tournament desk and request the Tournament Director or a court supervisor to observe the match. They can then step in if they feel it is necessary.

8. REFEREEING AFTER THE MATCH

  • Mandatory: Both players must stay and referee the next match on that court.
  • Penalty for leaving: loss of ranking points.
  • Refereeing is done on tablets—scores update live in Club Locker.

9. FOLLOWING THE DRAWS AND MATCHES ON LIVE SCORING

  • The ‘LIVE SCORES‘ feature is a great way to , track matches, check scores and if a match is on time.
  • Click on the grey ‘LIVE SCORES‘ button at the top right of the tournament page – See picture below circled in red.
  • Many venues display scoring on-site; otherwise, follow on your phone.
  • Note the draw flow:
    • Main draw loss → consolation
    • Consolation loss → plate draw (sometimes)
  • Always confirm next match with the tournament desk before leaving.

10. REST TIME BETWEEN MATCHES

Minimum time scheduled (varies by level):

  • Bronze: 1 hr 30 min (all ages)
  • Silver: 2 hrs (U11–U15), 3 hrs (U17–U19)
  • Gold/JCT: 3 hrs (U11–U15), 4 hrs (U17–U19)
